welcome to the official website of the 2009 sugar is art gallery

Glitz, glam, & gumpaste
With a theme of “Glitz, Glam, and Gumpaste“, Nashville will be ROCKED and definitely SWEETENED by this uniquely fun event, created by foodies and lovers of sugar art and designed to gather, stimulate, and showcase the most creative and talented sugar artists, pastry chefs, painters, sculptors, jewelry designers, hobbyists, students, interior decorators, chocolatiers, and fashion designers, all for ONE purpose- to celebrate the fabulous Art of Sugar and Pastry! Feeling that the industry as a whole needs more recognition, and Middle Tennessee definitely needs to step up its promotion and appreciation of the ever evolving food industry, Gabe‘s Gurl Event Productions set up shop and took on the challenge. This is one sweet new Nashville tradition that you definitely don’t want to miss.

enter your custom sugar display
Enthusiasts and professionals alike can enter a display in the Gallery. We want your best work, created by your hands with lots of detail and personality, and using any edible sugar medium of your choice! Five (5) categories are available, and best of all, you can use ANY form and/or combination of chocolate, cake, cookie, fudge, icing, gum paste, cereal, marzipan, cotton candy, pulled and blown sugar, gum paste, donut, caramel- the list is endless! Bring your cakes, sculptures, wearable fashions, hanging art, and your most tasty and delicious creations. Remember, it’s all about celebrating, admiring, and indulging in the art, versatility, beauty, and creativity of sugar in all its luscious forms. Take the Gallery challenge- How Creative Can YOU Get With Sugar?

gallery decorating station
Guests and attendees can purchase an edible “canvas”, which could include cupcakes, layer cakes, cookies, etc, settle in at the station, and design a delicious custom masterpiece using a variety of toppings and decorations on hand. Once completed, these delicious works of art- and the proud artist, of course- will be photographed for inclusion on this site. From there, you can eat it, share it, take it with you- or save it for the ultimate in bragging rights. THAT decision will be left completely up to you.

SUGAR IS ART FOOD DRIVE
Melissa and everyone at Gabe's Gurl Event Productions and the 2009 Sugar Is Art Gallery strongly believe that having delicious, freshly prepared food is a human RIGHT and not a privilege. For that reason, we are determined to do what we can to ensure that everyone has food to eat whenever they are hungry. We ask that Gallery supporters, sponsors, and attendees join us in a food drive to help Nashville's food banks provide assistance to those in need during hard times. Your donations are in high demand right now, and it is our generosity as a business community and as an industry that will make the difference for so many women, men, and children, our neighbors. We all have had to make some changes, cutbacks, and sacrifices to weather our troubled economy. While we feel certain that our economy will soon rebound, the emotional, physical, and mental effects of hunger, and more seriously, starvation, are lasting. We cannot ignore the plight of those whose times may be a little harder than ours, and we just ask that we all work together to do what we can to fight it. We also offer a very special thank you to Second Harvest Nashville for allowing us this chance to get involved and show our support of a very necessary cause.

Please bring two (2) non-perishable items to donate at the door on event day! We appreciate your support of our food drive, and thank you in advance for making this a very successful group effort! We look forward to seeing how much we can collect- and remember, every donation counts, no matter how small or large.
